Bartlett Marine have been involved in Offshore powerboat racing since the early 1990’s. Chris Bartlett designed the Sonic 1900 in 1993 as a competitive sport boat. The hull was at ease in the choppy Waitemata Harbour & quickly became the boat to beat in Offshore racing circles.
Today the Sonic 1900ss model is the boat chosen by Honda for the NZ Formula Honda one design racing class & is widely used in all aspects of sport boating both recreationally & in racing.
Chris & Debbie Bartlett have campaigned the Sonic hull since it’s inception in many classes of racing. In 1997 they ran an unlimited hp A class Sonic capable of 103mph, winning the bridge to bridge modified ( MOC ) ski racing class & the overall powerboat sprint in a boat that was mostly intended for offshore.
They set & still hold the overall speed record from Auckland Harbour Bridge to Tryphena Harbour & back in 1994 ( 1hr 40 mins ).
Competing in the Formula Honda class Chris & Debbie have twice travelled to the UK to compete in a round of the UK Honda series.
A new version of the Sonic1900ss was developed in 2006 to handle the brutally competitive Formula Honda class. This configuration is used in all Sonic hulls built today & is by far the strongest construction of any performance boat on the market in NZ today.
Bartlett Marine can perform all aspects of performance boat building & set up.
The construction & performance methods learnt from building & servicing of the racing fleet spin off in to the pleasure launches built by Bartlett marine.
